National Retailer saves 30%

One of North America’s largest specialty retailers operates over 5,200 stores and employs approximately 74,000 Team Members. As a result of it’s size and complex wireless structure, the company needed a Telecom Expense Management (TEM) provider capable of engineering a solution that could handle its large line count and field its variety of needs. After a review of 15 vendors through a formal RFP process administered by IBM consultants, mindWireless was selected.

The Challenge

A few years into our partnership, the retailer decided it was in the best interest of the company to shift their wireless strategy to BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). They looked to mindWireless to advise on the most effective and cost-efficient ways to manage their wireless environment moving forward, through BYOD or traditional corporate liable management.

The Solution

As a result of our extensive experience in the wireless industry, we were aware that switching to BYOD was not always the optimal management methodology. A thorough analysis was performed identifying the positive and negative aspects of such a transition and presented to the client. Through the process, we presented our capabilities to fully support a BYOD and Stipend Management program through our portal, reassuring the client of our ability to handle their wireless needs regardless of the direction of their decision. We also consulted with the client to take another look at their carrier contracts, as we knew the threat of a switch to BYOD could potentially be a bargaining chip for the company in any carrier negotiations. When one carrier fully realized the impact of a BYOD shift at this retailer, they worked with us to bring a more aggressive contract and rate plans to the table. The potential savings were so dramatic, across the other carriers as well. This contract restructuring ended up achieving significant cost-savings for the client.

The Results

After applying the renegotiated carrier rates to their current situation, this national retailer will save 30% on their total wireless expenses in the next 12 months. Additionally, the retailer continued to utilize our services to their fullest extent and was able to remain completely removed from all administrative and tactical duties involving their wireless devices.
